Endurance life always put on great events, this is the best of the lot, incredible route and a real challenge but superbly supported throughout and clear guidance. Highly recommend
I have done the CQ over 10y both as a quarter relayist and in the last 4y as a double relayist. We always love it- the route, the fact loads of like minded friends do it etc. I would say that in the last couple of years there seem to be more soloists than ever and whilst I have huge admiration this does seem to clog up the route. For obvious reasons the majority of them go slower and for large amounts of the path it is impossible to pass. This year I spent much more time than I would have liked (especially between Leven and Praa) walking as I was stuck behind soloists. Otherwise despite the horrendous conditions I loved it as usual!
The Classic Quarter is an amazing event. The team at Endurance Life were excellent!
They were very supportive and upbeat all the way through the course.
Thank you all for your support and work towards this event.
See you all next year!
Great race well organised throughout. One complaint would be they should have staggered the start to avoid the heavy congestion for the first few miles
Stunning route to cover as a solo runner but the relay runners, who start later, ruined it a bit for me, as I constantly had runners on fresh legs, running less distance, trying to overtake. With so much single track and technical ups and downs, finding safe places to overtake was tricky for runners at times, with some held back or overtaking dangerously. I had many on my heels huffing until I found space to let them through and saw two runners fall on a down when passed at speed and knocked. Marshals were great, course well marked (I love the orange X signs to note the wrong way) and aid stations have all the basics - I appreciated the sweets bagged in biodegradable bags, as so much easier to grab and eat over time. I’d love the event so much if the relay started first!
Brilliantly organised event. Would recommend
Amazing event, and brilliantly organised
My 4th year of running the Classic Quarter and hopefully one of many more to come. A well organised event with happy and helpful event crew run on a stunning section of south west coast path with epic views. I did the second half running with a friend as part of two pairs.
This year with yellow weather warning our first half team mates had driving wind and rain in their faces the whole way and missed the cut off at Perranuthnoe, so we were set off without the batons and our race numbers (as we didn’t want to get up even earlier and drive to Lizard to collect them in the morning). The only reason I have held off five stars is without our numbers every check point check took longer and I can’t seem to find any of us in the official race photos despite searching through them all. Posting out the numbers as in past years was better in this regard.
The Classic Quarter is still a special race and the organisers give a really fantastic experience and go out of their way to help - any emails are handled helpfully and with care. Well done endurancelife team and I’ll be back!
The race was brutal with 50+ mph head wind for the first few hours along with rain made it the most challenging conditions I’ve ever ran in. It was a day of 2 halves with the afternoon brightening but still windy just in time for the sting in tail, Q4. Great event, great team and cp’s and loved it.
